And the demons sang: Forget me not
Daniela Maciel
Video and sound: 7.27 min.
The work is generative and consists of pressed Forget-me-not flowers, which have been scanned and programmed to control the soundscape (the inner demons’ song) The flowers will always control the soundscape in different ways and therefore the demons’ song will constantly change. The video is a recording of the generative work and shows and example of how the work can sound like.
The work is inspired by the Tibetan practice of Chöd, where a person confronts the inner demons and befriends them, I have chosen to celebrate the demons. Via Forget-me-not flowers, they speak. The Forget-me-not flowers have for centuries been used in mythologies as a symbol of remembrance of our loved ones. In this audiovisual work the flowers control a generative soundscape, which represents the demons’ song. The demons’ song is a reminder that one should never forget the inner demons, but instead accept that they are part of life.
